On 15 February, in Nouakchott, Mr. Moctar Alhousseyni Lam, the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, met with HE Mr. Evaldo Freire, Brazil’s Ambassador to Mauritania.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss cooperative relations between Mauritania and Brazil and ways to strengthen and develop them, particularly in the fishing field.
It addressed particularly Brazil’s recent adoption of health certificates issued by the National Office of Sanitary Inspection of Fisheries and Aquaculture Products (ONISPA).
Thanks to this certification, the Brazilian market, populated by 270 million inhabitants, will be open to Mauritanian artisanal pelagic fishing products.
The opening of the large Brazilian market could also lead to other South American markets. The first export of pelagic fish is expected to be shipped to Brazil soon.
