On 11 December, in Geneva, Mr. Cheikh Ahmedou Ould and Ahmed Salem Ould Sidi, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, affirmed Mauritania’s determination to move forward in promotingand protecting human rights at all levels.
In a speech before the participants in the work of the UN High-Level Forum commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, he stressed that our country hadcommitted itself to developing and implementing a national strategy for the promoting and protection of human rights, enshrining economic, social, and cultural rights for all groups, especially the most vulnerable, adopting twolaws to combat all forms of violence against women and girls and regulate the right to asylum, and establishing a national mechanism to monitor the integration of the approach based onhuman rights in all development policies and programs.
He further noted that the adoption of such measures will strengthen the protection and empowerment of the rights of vulnerable groups, consolidate the institutional framework governing rights and freedoms in the country, and guarantee the effectiveness of the measures taken to realize the right to
development.
