On 10 July, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received a delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany led by Ms. Svenja Schulze, the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss areas of cooperation between the two friendly countries and ways to strengthen and expand cooperation in the service of mutual interests and discuss issues of common concern, particularly in the Sahel region.
Shortly after the meeting, the German official made a statement to the Mauritanian news agency, in which she expressed her joy at being in Mauritania, a country which she considers “a key factor and a guarantee of stability in the Sahel region”.
She added that Mauritania has deployed and continues to deploy considerable efforts in the fight against poverty and climate change, recalling the capacities available to the country in the economic field.
She explained that she had discussed with the President of the Republic the means of deepening and broadening cooperation with Mauritania, which plays a pioneering and constructive role in the Sahel and contributes significantly to promoting peace in the region.
The German minister said that the Sahel Alliance is an international central association which includes 18 members, including Germany, the World Bank, France, Spain, and the European Union, before indicating that she had started her visit in Mauritania because it considers it to be a reliable partner capable of driving a real dynamic of change in the region.
