Mauritania Strongly Condemns Holy Quran Burning in Stockholm

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad has strongly condemned the burning a copy of the Holy Quran in front of the central mosque in Stockholm on the first day of the Blessed Eid Al Adha.

In a statement released on 29 June, the ministry indicated that the repetition of this heinous behavior reflects a premeditated ill will of the planners and executors against Islam and what is most sacred in it, calling the international community to work seriously and in solidarity against the repetition of these vile acts and punish their perpetrators.

The statement reads as follows:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad strongly condemns and denounces the burning a copy of the Holy Quran in front of the central mosque in Stockholm on the first day of the Blessed Eid Al-Adha.

The repetition of this heinous behavior reflects a premeditated ill will of the planners and executors against Islam and the most sacred in it. It also clearly demonstrates their determination to go as far as possible in provoking the feelings of more than two billion Muslims over the world.

This reprehensible act is blatantly contrary to the values of dialogue, tolerance, rejection of hate, extremism, and exclusion, as well as to the essential principles of human rights and values of peaceful coexistence between cultures and people.

The Mauritanian Government reaffirms, on this occasion, its constant attachment to the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence between cultures and people in accordance with the principles of tolerance on which the Muslim religion is based. It also renews its total rejection of anything that is likely to provoke feelings of hatred and violence between people and nations. In this context, it calls on the international community to work seriously and in solidarity against these heinous acts and punish their perpetrators”.
