BIOGRAPHY
FORMATION
Mr Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH, holds a Baccalaureate in Mathematics, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Tunis, a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Development Economics from the University Paris-I-Panthéon Sorbonne and an International Diploma in Public Administration from ENA Paris.
PROFESSIONAL CURSUS
Mr Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH began his professional career in 1985 at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, first as an executive in the Financing Directorate before successively holding the positions of Head of the Project Department (1986) and Deputy Director of Financing and External Debt (1988).
Mr Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH joined the Ministry of Planning and Employment in 1990 as project manager for the reintegration of returnees from Senegal before successively holding the positions of technical adviser to the Minister in charge of the social dimensions of structural adjustment (1990) and then Director of Planning (1991).
In April 1992, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH was appointed Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Government of the Democratic Era.
Mr Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH was appointed Minister of Fisheries in December 1997 and left in March 1998.
In May 1998 he was appointed Commissioner for Human Rights, the Fight against Poverty and Integration, a position he held until September 2001.
Mr Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH joined FAO in April 2003, first as representative for Lebanon, then as representative in Togo in 2007, before being appointed, in February 2008, deputy regional representative for North Africa and the Middle East, cumulatively with the functions of representative for Egypt.
Mr Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH was appointed Director of the Liaison Office with the United Nations System in Geneva in January 2011, before being promoted in October 2012 to the position of Deputy Director and Regional Representative for North Africa and the Middle East, a position he held until August 2022.
Mr Abdessalam Ould Mohamed SALEH has held the position of Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy since August 2020.
