President of Republic Attends African Leaders’ Meeting on Partnership in Agenda 2063

On 15 December, in Washington, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, participated, alongside his counterparts, leaders of African countries and Mr. Joe Biden, the President of the United States of America, in the leaders’ session organized within the framework of the US-Africa Leaders Summit, devoted to the discussion of partnership in Agenda 2063.
During this meeting, leaders will discuss, in three sessions, several topics related to partnership in Agenda 2063, multilateral partnerships with Africa to address global challenges, and strengthening food security and food systems resilience.

In his opening address, Mr. Joe Biden, the President of the United States of America, affirmed his country’s support for the African Union’s membership in the United Nations, calling on the AU to join the G-20.
He said the United States of America is committed to helping Africa get the funds it needs to build strong economies and is also committed to supporting and promoting democracy, human rights and responsible governance. He noted that democracy is the most important way to deal with the challenges facing Africa.
Mr. Biden stressed that he had tasked one of the most eminent diplomats to implement the conclusions and recommendations of this summit, stressing that Africa is a strategic partner for the United States of America.
Mr. Macky Sall, the President of the Republic of Senegal, Chairperson of the African Union, indicated that the African continent expects the United States of America to support them in six fundamental priorities, including the strengthening of peace and security, the fight against terrorism, the reduction and cancellation of debts, the provision of the funds necessary for the construction of infrastructure on the continent, the acceleration of the process of reform of the Security Council, the accession of the African Union to this Council as a permanent member body, and also obtaining membership in the G-20.
