On 20 November, Mr. Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, began a two-day visit to Mauritania as part of the fruitful cooperation between Mauritania and the European Union.
The European official was welcomed at the international airport of Nouakchott, Oumtounsy, by the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Ould Bilal Massoud, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, the Minister Secretary General of the Government, the Mauritanian Ambassador in Brussels, the Prime Minister’s Director of Cabinet, an officer in charge of special duties and advisers at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Wali of Western Nouakchott, the Vice President of the Nouakchott Region, the head of the European Union delegation to Mauritania.
In the VIP lounge of the airport, in the presence of the Mauritanian Ambassador in Brussels and the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Mauritania, the Prime Minister reviewed with the President of the European Council the fruitful cooperation between our country and the European Council, ways to strengthen it, and other issues of common interest.
It is noteworthy that cooperation between Mauritania and the European Union has experienced remarkable development in recent years through multiple visits and partnerships in various fields.
The President of the Republic’s participation in the European Development Days organized under the slogan: “Global Gate: Building sustainable partnerships for a connected world” in Brussels in June 2022 constituted an important milestone in strengthening this cooperation.
In a speech he delivered during that session, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani hailed the support provided by the European Union to Mauritania and the countries of the Sahel in general.
