Mauritanian President Receives Credentials of Swedish Ambassador

Nouakchott

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received on Tuesday, at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, the credentials of Her Excellency Ms. Catharina Cappelin as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Following the ceremony, the President  granted an audience to the Swedish ambassador in the presence of Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad.

Following the meeting, the Swedish ambassador told the Mauritanian News Agency that she was pleased to visit Mauritania, reaffirming the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries over the past 55 years. She emphasized their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding partnerships in sustainable economic development, transport, energy, digital transformation, and mining, drawing on Sweden’s expertise to promote mutual interests and shared prosperity.

She also said that Mauritania is considered an important partner for the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)—of which Sweden became a member two years ago—and praised the role Mauritania plays in promoting stability in the region, in light of cross-border security challenges.

In closing her remarks, the Swedish diplomat expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Mauritanian authorities for the warm welcome and generous hospitality she has received since her arrival in the country.
