Minister of Water Takes Part in Preparatory Ministerial Meeting for 11th World Water Forum in Saudi Arabia

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Amal Mint Maouloud, took part yesterday, Monday, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in the ministerial meeting held as part of the second preparatory consultative meeting for the 11th World Water Forum (Riyadh 2027), held on the sidelines of Saudi Water Week 2026, with the participation of ministers, heads of delegations and representatives of regional and international organisations involved in the water sector.
The Minister delivered a speech in which she emphasised that the outcomes of the 10th World Water Forum align in certain areas with the approaches adopted by Mauritania in its national strategy for the water sector. She noted that the sector has embarked on diversifying water sources, working to improve the utilisation of available resources, and placing particular emphasis on surface water whilst conserving groundwater as much as possible, given its status as a strategic reserve.
The Minister outlined the key challenges facing water sector, foremost among which are the impacts of climate change and the rising cost of delivering water services to certain cities and population centres. She emphasised that addressing these challenges requires strengthening cooperation, drawing on expertise and successful experiences, developing more flexible financing mechanisms, encouraging investment and innovation, and making optimal use of modern technologies in water resource management.
The Minister reiterated Mauritania’s support for the preparations for the 11th World Water Forum, expressing her hope that the ongoing consultations would lead to practical outcomes and effective partnerships that contribute to enhancing water security and achieving sustainable development at both the regional and international levels.
