Under the Chairmanship of Mauritania… Launch of the ‘Initiatives for Achieving Arab Food Security’ Conference in Dubai
Dubai
Today, in the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development Conference under the title ‘Initiatives for Achieving Food Security in the Arab World’ was launched. This year’s conference is being held under the theme ‘Sustainability is the Path to Food Security,’ during the period from February 4 to 5.
In his opening speech as Chairman of the Shareholders’ Council for the 49th session, Minister of Economic Affairs and Development Mr. Abdullah Souleimane Cheikh Sidya emphasized that food security has become a matter of ‘national sovereignty’ that goes beyond the concept of supply and demand, especially in light of supply chain disruptions and climate changes.
In his speech, the Minister also delivered a comprehensive presentation, which included an open invitation to Arab investors to explore Mauritania’s potential, highlighting that the country has more than 135,000 hectares suitable for irrigation, 30 million heads of livestock, and 700 km of fish-rich coastline. All of this is supported by an encouraging legal framework that includes a new investment code, a public-private partnership law, and an investment environment characterized by safety and stability.
The Minister concluded his speech by commending the new institutional identity of the authority (MIR), expressing his hopes that the conference would result in practical recommendations to enhance Arab economic integration and secure the future of coming generations.
