Foreign Minister Decorates Archaeology Researcher for Service to Mauritania

On behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, decorated Dr. Robert Vernet on Thursday with the rank of Knight of the National Order of Merit.

Dr. Vernet is an emeritus professor of history and a prominent archaeology researcher specializing in Mauritania. The ceremony, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Nouakchott, was followed by a meeting in which the Minister expressed his deep appreciation for Dr. Vernet’s lifelong dedication to Mauritanian historical and scientific research.

In response, Dr. Vernet expressed his profound gratitude to the President, noting that the decoration reflects a high regard for the role of scientific research in the advancement of society.
