As part of the preparations for the 14th edition of the Cities of Heritage Festival, scheduled this year in the city of Ouadane from December 19 to 23, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay, chaired today, Monday, at the Prime Ministry premises, a eeting of the ministerial committee responsible for overseeing the festival.

This meeting comes as a reflection of the special attention that His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, gives to historical cities, and to the developmental aspect of the Cities of Heritage Festival, which was launched five years ago upon his esteemed initiative, with the aim of promoting this cultural heritage, stabilizing the population in their native cities, and enhancing their tourist and cultural appeal.

Over the past years, the state has been keen to support the concerned cities by implementing a package of development projects with a total cost of 20 billion old Ouguiyas, in vital areas including infrastructure and basic services.

The committee session addressed the progress in implementing sectoral commitments, mechanisms for enhancing the developmental, scientific, and technical components of the festival, as well as ways to achieve integration between programs and ensure efficiency in implementation.

The committee also listened to a detailed presentation delivered by the Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, in which he reviewed the outcomes of the projects implemented within the portfolio of this session, including qualitative interventions aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving the level of basic services, in a manner befitting the historical significance of this city.

In his concluding remarks, His Excellency the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of regularly monitoring completed projects, ensuring their maintenance and sustainability, calling on the relevant government sectors to mobilize all efforts and harness the necessary resources to make this session a success, and to make it an outstanding milestone at organizational, developmental, and cultural levels.
