Mauritania Participates in Leaders’ Summit on Climate in Brazil

The Leaders Summit on Climate Change opened on 6 November in the city of Belem, in the Federative Republic of Brazil. The summit takes place four days before the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate, scheduled for 10-21 November in the same city.

Ms. Messaouda Mint Baham Mohamed Laghdaf, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, is participating in this summit on behalf of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Republic, at the head of a high-level Mauritanian delegation, including, particularly, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Mokhtar Youssef, our Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil.

The opening ceremony was presided over by His Excellency Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil. It was attended by many heads of state and government, as well as senior representatives of United Nations organizations, international institutions, and global partners active in climate protection.

Mauritania’s participation in this event shows its firm commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. It also reflects its dedication to strengthening international solidarity against climate change challenges. This aligns with the vision of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Republic, for environmental preservation and sustainable development.
