President of the Employers’ Union meets with a Delegation from the Canary Islands and the Basque Country in Spain

The President of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers, Mr. Mohamed Zeine El Abidine Cheikh Ahmed, met this morning, Tuesday, at his office with a delegation representing the governments of the Canary Islands and the Basque Country. The meeting addressed aspects of economic and trade relations between economic actors in Mauritania and these regions, as well as ways to develop them.

The head of the union welcomed the Spanish delegation and said that relations and trade exchanges with Spain are experiencing considerable growth in several sectors, including fishing.He added that the National Union of Mauritanian Employers hopes that the visit of the current delegation will yield positive results that will further advance these relations.The head of the union reviewed the substantial opportunities available to investors in Mauritania in various sectors such as agriculture, fishing, industry, mining, and renewable energy, expressing the union’s readiness to provide full support to investors from the Canary Islands and Basque regions who wish to work in Mauritania.

For his part, the head of the Spanish delegation thanked the Union president for the reception and said that they had come to Mauritania to explore ways to develop economic relations and trade exchanges, to explore the opportunities available to investors in the two regions, and to work on overcoming any obstacles that might face these investors.The representative of the Basque region expressed the region’s interest in developing relations and trade exchanges with Mauritania by drawing on the experience of the Canary Islands in this field.The meeting was attended by Mr. Najy Ishedou, President of the Federation of Industry and Minerals, and the Acting Secretary-General of the Union, Mr. Cheikh Ould Bouasria.
