Mauritania, China Sign MoU on Security Cooperation

On 31 July, in Nouakchott, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on security cooperation between Mauritania and the People’s Republic of China.

This agreement, signed on behalf of the government of the People’s Republic of China by His Excellency Mr. Tang Zhongdong, the Chinese Ambassador in Nouakchott, is part of the Global Security Initiative proposed by the People’s Republic of China two years ago, which is an important concept calling for a new path to security, emphasizing dialogue and partnership instead of confrontation.

Following the signing, the Minister of Foreign Affairs held talks with the Chinese Ambassador, discussing various issues of cooperation and partnership between the two countries as well as issues of common interest.
