President of the Republic oversees the Inauguration and Laying of the Foundation Stone for Development and Service Facilities in Nouadhibou

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, presided over the inauguration of a number of development and service facilities on Monday morning and laid the foundation stone for others in support of infrastructure and the promotion of economic activity in the economic capital Nouadhibou.
These facilities and development projects included the launch of a project to strengthen the system for supplying the city of Nouadhibou with drinking water from Lake Boulenouar, the launch of a seawater desalination plant for farmers, and the launch of an industrial complex for the processing and valorization of surface fish “Samak.” In addition, the foundation stone was laid for three other projects, including the construction of a technical and vocational training school for media and communication technologies in Nouadhibou, the connection of Mauritania to a second submarine cable via Nouadhibou, and the completion and rehabilitation of the commercial quay at the independent port of Nouadhibou.
These projects, which are part of the qualitative leap that national infrastructure is undergoing in various fields, represent a new step towards the fair and balanced development of the city of Nouadhibou. For the first time in decades, thanks to the completion of the project to supply Nouadhibou with water from the city of Belnouar, water tankers will no longer be needed in many neighborhoods of the city. This project will enable residents to access water services at a low cost. In addition to the services that will be provided by other projects that touch the daily lives of citizens in the areas of communication, training, expansion of the independent port of Nouadhibou, and manufacturing in the field of fishing.
The head of the Nouadhibou region, Mr. Mohamed El Mami Ould Ahmed Bezid, praised the launch of these development projects in a speech, emphasizing that they add to the series of achievements that have continued since His Excellency the President of the Republic took office.
He added that the projects launched today in Nouadhibou are a manifestation of the ambitious programs of His Excellency the President of the Republic (My Commitments and Priorities), which have been translated into concrete development projects.
The mayor of Nouadhibou, Deputy Al-Qasim Bellali, had previously stated in a speech that the projects launched today and those whose foundations have been laid in the city will have a positive impact on the daily lives of citizens in many vital areas, including water, communications, training, and manufacturing in the fishing industry, in addition to the expansion of the independent port of Nouadhibou.
He pointed out that the city’s priorities that have not yet been achieved will be included in the state’s development program.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic, the Ministers of Digital Transformation and Modernization of Administration; Fisheries, Maritime and Port Infrastructure; Housing, Urban Development and Land Reclamation; Water and Sanitation; the General Delegate for National Solidarity and the Fight against Exclusion “Taazur”; advisors to the Presidency of the Republic; the governor of Nouadhibou; the president of the Nouadhibou Free Zone Authority; the managing director of the National Industrial and Mining Company (SNIM); the prefect of Nouadhibou; local elected officials; military and security leaders in the province; and a number of national business leaders.
