Conclusion of the Fourth Edition of the International Festival of Mauritanian Dates

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould El Arabi, accompanied by the Governor of Assaba, Mr. Ahmedou Adahi Akhtir, the closing ceremony of the fourth edition of the International Festival of Mauritanian Dates, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation.

The international event, which aims to promote local date production and upgrade the palm sector, included scientific seminars, a large date exhibition, a traditional archery tournament, evening events, and cultural competitions.

During his closing remarks, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty thanked the festival organizers, administrative and security authorities, dignitaries, local elected officials, and all participants for the atmosphere that characterized this event, which aims to promote the palm tree sector in Mauritania in order to meet the population’s needs for local production and processing of dates and its promotion.

He added that this edition was a great success, with more than 24 participants representing several countries, in addition to the organization of an excellent scientific symposium in which all research findings in the field of promoting the palm sector were presented, with the participation of all interested parties and farmers in the palm oases.

He said that participants in the exhibition will distribute 300 seedlings of the “Al-Majhoul” variety, noting the important agreement reached between Mauritania and the sisterly United Arab Emirates, which includes the preparation of a national strategy for the development of the date sector in Mauritania, the expansion and rehabilitation of the Mauritania Date Company factory, and the exchange of technical expertise in the field of palm cultivation and date production.

 

The mayor of Kiffa, Mr. Jamal Ould Kaboud, had previously highlighted in a speech the positive results of this festival on the economic, social and cultural fields in the city, calling for the organization of many similar events and activities in the province in the future.

The closing ceremony was attended by administrative and security authorities, local elected officials, a number of executives from the agriculture and food sovereignty sector, and a crowd of citizens and festival participants.
