Minister of Energy inspects the Status of Some Power Plants

Nouakchott

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, on Sunday paid an inspection visit to some of the sector’s facilities in Nouakchott, including the Arafat electrical discharge station and the OMVS switching station.

The Minister was briefed on the status of these two facilities, located in Nouakchott South on the Rosso road, where he inspected the electrical discharge station and listened to technical explanations about the operation of this facility and its role in ensuring the continuity of service, and inspected the electricity distribution equipment and the operation of the transmission lines branching from it.

The 225/33 kV switching station, which connects the national grid to the Senegal River Investment Organization’s network, was the second stop of the visit, where the minister listened to explanations provided by technicians about the operation of the facility, stressing that it underwent maintenance and cleaning works yesterday, which led to a temporary absence of service before it returned to normal on the same day.

These disruptions have caused some disruptions in the operation of water treatment and pumping facilities in the capital.

The OMVS transformer station ensures grid stability and continuity of service as well as electrical exchange with other grids in neighboring countries.

During the various stops of the visit, the Minister urged to redouble efforts to control and eliminate imbalances and ensure the continuity of electricity services, especially during times of peak consumption caused by heat waves.

He instructed to take the necessary measures to minimize these interruptions and work diligently to improve the organization’s performance and raise its technical capabilities.

He instructed to inform the public in advance of the maintenance program of the stations, whether in Nouakchott or in the interior.

The Minister urged the technical teams to intensify their efforts to improve the performance of the networks, especially in the city of Nouakchott, stressing that the electricity component of the emergency program launched by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, will contribute significantly to a qualitative leap in electricity services in Nouakchott.

The Minister was accompanied by the Assistant General Manager of Somelec, the Advisor in charge of Cooperation and Communication, and several managers and staff of the company.
