AfDB Group President-Elect Expresses Gratitude to President of Republic After Mauritania’s Victory

Mr. Sidi Ould Tah, the President-elect of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, has expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, for his efforts in securing Mauritania’s presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

In a speech following the announcement of his victory, Sidi Ould Tah thanked Africa for the confidence placed in him. He also thanked all Mauritanians for the outpouring of solidarity that accompanied his election campaign, particularly the campaign team, which did an “excellent job from start to finish,” and all those who supported his candidacy in one way or another.

Below is the speech made by the new AfDB President on the announcement of his election:

“Excellencies, Governors, Deputy Governors and Directors

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with great humility and a sense of responsibility that I address you at this special moment. First of all, I would like to thank Africa for the trust it has placed in me.

I want to thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen Governors, for this trust, the responsibility and duty of which I am fully aware. I would especially like to thank my country, headed by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, who supported my candidacy and made tireless efforts to achieve the success we have just seen. I would like to thank all my Mauritanian and African brothers and sisters for the outpouring of solidarity that accompanied my campaign.

I would like to make a special mention of my campaign team, who did a remarkable job from start to finish.

It is also my duty to thank all those who have supported my candidacy from near and far, whom I could not possibly name all under these circumstances.
