Minister of Energy and Petroleum Receives Parliamentary Group for Environment and Sustainable Development

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, received on Monday at his office the Parliamentary Team for Environment and Sustainable Development, headed by MP Lamrabott Ould Tanji.

 

After the meeting, the head of the parliamentary team for the environment made a statement to the press, confirming that the meeting touched on all areas related to the team’s work, including the recent gas leak in one of the wells of the Ahmeyim turtle field, and its impact on the environment.

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum gave a detailed presentation on the gas leak incident and the measures taken to minimize the effects of the leak, adding that he assured them that the specialized teams started their work during the incident under the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, and that the leak was completely controlled, alhamdulillah.

He said the minister explained the measures taken to avoid the recurrence of such incidents, stressing the need for measures for environmental safety and the protection of the country’s natural resources.

He added that the MPs, in turn, expressed their concern about this incident and the need to take the necessary measures in order not to repeat it.

The parliamentary team expressed its appreciation for the efforts made to deal with the incident, and emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation with all concerned parties to ensure environmental safety and maritime development.
