President of the Republic oversees the Launch of the Emergency Program for the Development of the City of Nouakchott.

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, oversaw the launch of the urgent program for the development of the city of Nouakchott this morning, Monday, in the Riyadh district of southern Nouakchott.

This integrated emergency program, prepared on the instructions of His Excellency the President of the Republic in accordance with his commitments in his electoral program “My ambition for the homeland”, comes in response to the urgent needs of the population of Nouakchott. The program, which has a total budget of about 5.1 billion new Ouguiyas, includes eight components:

– Education Component with a financial cover of (866) million new ounces, and includes the construction of new educational institutions, the restoration and expansion of other institutions, and the improvement of the school environment.

– The health component, with a financial envelope of (941) million new Ouguiyas, and aims to improve the conditions of access to quality health services close to citizens in the various municipalities of Nouakchott by building and equipping new health centers, rehabilitating existing health centers and transforming all health points into health centers.

– Access to potable water and sanitation service, with a financial envelope of (764) million new Ouguiyas, and aims to improve the situation of drinking water supply in various municipalities and support the infrastructure for rainwater drainage.

– The component of access to electricity and public lighting, with a financial envelope of 526 million new Ouguiyas, and aims to improve access to electricity in various municipalities.

– Urban roads and the removal of isolation (1.68 million new Ouguiyas) have been allocated to them, which aims to improve the flow of traffic in the capital and promote the integration of popular neighborhoods on the other hand, through the construction of new paved roads distributed among all municipalities (68 km), a bypass road around the city with a length of 50 km, and the expansion and strengthening of the airport road.

– Youth and Sports Component, for which a financial envelope of (210) million new Ouguiyas has been allocated, and aims to promote the prosperity of young people by increasing the number of sports facilities.

– Environment and Sustainable Development Component, with a financial envelope of (158) million new Ouguiyas, and aims to make the city of Nouakchott reconciled with the environment and attractive by creating ecological lakes on the ruins of stagnant water marshes, creating new green spaces, and achieving a symbolic landmark in a strategic location.

– The associative participation component, which aims to transform the municipalities of Nouakchott into lively, active and clean spaces in coordination between the Nouakchott region, municipalities, civil service volunteers and civil society, and to implement a plan of events that includes cultural activities, competitions, cleaning campaigns and sports events.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Diay, Speaker of the National Assembly Mohamed Bamba Meguett, Minister Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic Moulay Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic Nani Ould Shrougha, the two Ministers Counsellors to the Presidency of the Republic, members of the government, commanders of the military and security agencies, the governor of southern Nouakchott, the president of the regional council of Nouakchott, the governor of Riyadh province and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Mauritania.
