Minister of Agriculture participates in the Meeting of Ministers of Ariculture Prepared for the Extraordinary Summit of African Heads of State

A delegation from our country, headed by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Memma  Beibatta, participated, on Thursday in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, in the meeting of African Mnisters of Agriculture, prepared for the extraordinary summit of African heads of state dedicated to the endorsement of the strategy and action plan of the Comprehensive Program for Agricultural Development in Africa.

In a speech delivered during the opening session of the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty stressed the importance of the Action Plan of the African Comprehensive Programme for Agricultural Development Post-Malabo 2026-2035, which was attended by the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment in October 2024, highlighting that this plan has become among the most important strategic references in the field of sustainable agricultural development.

He stressed the compatibility and consistency of the strategy and action plan of the Comprehensive Program for Agricultural Development in Africa with the priorities of Mauritania in this field, as His Excellency the President of the Republic, Chairman of the African Union, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, gives top priority and special attention to enhancing food security, combating poverty and preventing food crises, as well as the optimal and rational use of water, preserving the environment, supporting the ability of resilience and adaptation to climate change, which is reflected in the “My Ambition for the Nation” program, where His Excellency focused on developing an approach Serious to ensure balanced economic and social growth that includes all parts of the country and all agricultural patterns.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty explained that this is what the government has adopted, under the supervision of  the Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay, through the formulation of action plans aimed at accelerating the pace of implementation of development programs, especially in the productive sectors, as it will enable important achievements in the field of food security and the fight against poverty and malnutrition, which would reduce imports of agricultural and animal crops, such as rice, traditional grains, vegetables, dates, dairy and their derivatives and poultry, knowing that Mauritania has made advanced strides in The field of obtaining self-sufficiency in red meat and rice.

He stressed that Mauritania is fully prepared to participate seriously in working to identify common factors among member states that would enable the rational exploitation of natural resources, exchange experiences in the field of development and seize the development opportunities provided by the complementarity of resources that characterize our African countries to achieve the general objectives set out in this comprehensive program in order to accelerate growth and development in Africa.

In addition to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, the meeting was attended by Mauritania’s Ambassador to Uganda, Khadija Mbarek Vall, Permanent Representative to the African Union, and Abdallahi Ould Baba Ziyad, Director of Cooperation and Strategies at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty.
