On 16 December, in Nouakchott, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic and chairman of the African Union (AU), received a high-level delegation from the Chinese Foundation ”GX”, led by Mr. Leung Chun-ying, the Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
The meeting focused on the close relations between our country and the People’s Republic of China and ways of developing these cooperative relations to achieve the desired objectives.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Leung Chun-Ying made a statement to the Mauritanian news agency in which he indicated that he “had held a very fruitful meeting with His Excellency the President of the Republic on the preparation of the action of the ‘’GX‘’ Foundation focused on the eradication of blindness caused by cataracts in Mauritania”.
He added that the “Foundation is a non-governmental organization based in Hong Kong, which provides medical aid. Over 14 months, it has helped 1,900 patients in Mauritania recover their sight thanks to surgical interventions in Nouakchott. We have now completed the program for the first stage, and we are looking for the possibility of continuing this work for the second stage.”
“Our action has been welcomed by His Excellency the President of the Republic, who supports continuing to complete our program. We hope to normalize our situation in Mauritania to continue our work, an objective supported by the President of the Republic”, he concluded.
