Minister of Agriculture participates in the Sessions of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Seven Countries in Italy

During the meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Group of Seven and their counterparts from some countries of the African continent, on Thursday in the Italian city of Syracuse, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Memma Beibette, said that His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani, the rotating Chairman of the African Union, pays great attention to strengthening cooperation between African countries and all development partners, in particular the Group of Seven, to be able to exploit the vast resources available to the African continent to achieve the goal of food sovereignty and to export a surplus. Produce it for the world.

In his speech, HE the Minister pointed out that the Mauritanian government has developed a set of development tools and strategies based on the program of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, “My Ambition for the Nation”, which was downloaded within the framework of the government’s general policy declaration presented by the  Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Diay before Parliament on September 4, 2024.

He added that this declaration identified the main priority axes, including working to make our agriculture highly profitable and competitive, increasing the resilience of our food systems, and mitigating the effects of climate change and its negative impact on production and productivity.

The chronic lack of investment in agriculture is one of the most prominent obstacles that have prevented the development of this sector and make it play the economic and social role entrusted to it, said Memma Beibette, highlighting the priority given by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to empowering youth, fighting poverty and improving the living conditions of citizens.

He called on the  seven countries ministers to strengthen partnership and support investment in order to exploit African agricultural resources with a promising future.

The meeting will continue in the form of consultative platforms and bilateral meetings during the next two days between the Ministers of Agriculture of the seven countries and their African counterparts under the chairmanship of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty
