Minister of Economy outlines the Multiple Opportunities for Fruitful Partnership Between Africa and Indonesia

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Sid’ Ahmed Ould Bouh, representing His Excellency the President of the Republic, President of the African Union, Mr Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, participated in the second Africa-Indonesian Forum and the High-Level Forum on Multi-stakeholder Partnerships organized under the theme: ‘Strengthening Multi-stakeholder Partnerships: Towards Transformational Change’.

 

The Minister read the speech of the President of the Republic to the participants of the Forum, which kicked off on Sunday in Bali, Indonesia, in which he reiterated the most important challenges facing the African continent, including the issue of economic development, the issue of consolidating peace and security, and the urgent challenge of creating adequate and decent jobs for the youth

He added that the economic situation, the debt burden and natural disasters are all obstacles that significantly slow down the path that could lead to strong and sustainable growth for the continent, noting that consolidating peace and security across Africa is a challenge due to the proliferation of hotspots of tension, external shocks, and the spread of terrorist movements.

 

He pointed out that the most pressing challenge is the one faced by the continent’s youth, which represents more than 50% of the population and it is expected to rise within two decades to just over 60%, making it imperative to invest in this segment of society through education and training so that the continent can provide real opportunities for decent work for millions of its youth.

 

He mentioned that the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which constitutes the continent’s vision for the future, represents at the same time our hope, our will and our common aspiration for Africa, an Africa that we want to prosper in all fields and by all means.

 

In a speech delivered on behalf of the President of the Republic, the Minister of Economy and Finance said that this second meeting of the Indonesia-Africa Cooperation Forum confirms that African countries have ample opportunities to diversify and deepen their cooperation with their partners, noting that Indonesia and African countries today find valuable economic opportunities to be exploited in many sectors, in which similarity is a factor of convergence, cooperation and complementarity

He added that the two sides are facing a historic moment and a real opportunity to build strong ties that will further develop and diversify their trade and economic cooperation, noting that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a real opportunity to achieve this.

 

He stressed that the Africa-Indonesia Partnership will also be able to accelerate cooperation in the areas of sharing expertise, transformation of natural resources, vocational training for youth, digital transformation, innovation and capacity building, and the valorization of natural and marine resources.

The Minister of Economy and Finance reviewed In a speech delivered on behalf of the President of the Republic to the Forum that the investment opportunities offered by Mauritania with its enormous natural resources and preferential advantages in sectors such as renewable energies, green hydrogen and precious metals, which makes the future of the partnership space with Indonesia a rich one, whether in terms of fruitful partnerships between the private sectors of our two countries or through direct investments.

 

He called on Indonesia, as a member of the G20, to support the efforts of AU countries to seek an active, fair and equitable presence in terms of representation in global organizations, mainly related to the reform of the global financial system, addressing the issue of unsustainable debt that is choking the economies of some of our countries, and granting Africa a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.
