Third Edition of Mauritanian International Date Festival concludes

The third edition of the International Mauritanian Date Festival, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, concluded Sunday evening in Tidjikja, the capital of Tagant province.

The activities of the international event included evenings, seminars, sports games and cultural competitions, all of which focused on the interest in palm to develop the local production of dates, taking into account quality.

During his supervision of the conclusion of the ceremony, the Wali rolled up all those who contributed to the success of the event, pointing to the size of the attendees and participants, the type and multiplicity of events, explaining that this demonstration and other cultural and development activities are at the heart of the concerns of His Excellency the President of the Republic, who pays special attention to initiatives aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in the food field.

He said that the event included a series of events with important economic returns on the local population, noting that these events include exhibitions of dates, handicrafts and oases, and the activities of associative bodies active in the field of palm cultivation.

He pointed out that the festival provided a platform to value the cultural, economic and social heritage of the state by reviewing the cultural and civilizational heritage that abounds in it, hoping that the festival will be an incentive for farmers and investors, and exert more efforts to reach self-sufficiency in the field of dates.

For his part, the president of the Tagant region, Mohamed Ould Beha, said that the festival was a real opportunity to promote the latest achievements of Mauritanians and those interested in the palm industry.

He thanked all those who contributed from near or far to the success of the conference, reviewing the most important events that characterized the conference this year and the extent of the great positive repercussions on the population, praising in this regard the bilateral Mauritanian-Emirati cooperation, which gave impetus to the event.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Tidjikja, Mr. Jeddou Ould Manabbeh, expressed his happiness with the achievements of the International Conference on Dates in Tidjikja during its third edition, calling on those interested to benefit from the experiences of others in the field

He reiterated his emphasis on continuing efforts to keep the festival an economic lever for the state, which reflects positively in its form and content on all aspects of life, stressing that this edition was characterized by a remarkable presence and large representation from various countries.

During the period, the governor of the state inspected the activities accompanying the festival, including discovering traditional food dishes in the Baghdad area, standing on the progress of organizing traditional shooting, and visiting the performances held in this field.
