The internet Outage was due to a Malfunction of the Off-Border Submarine Cable and was Quickly Repaired
The Ministry of Digital Transformation, Innovation and Modernization of Administration explained that the reason for the sudden interruption in the Internet, which took place at about ten thirty on Wednesday evening, was at the level of the submarine Internet cable ACE, specifically at a point outside the Mauritanian borders, stressing that thanks to supervision and careful follow-up, and international cooperation, the malfunction was repaired, and the service was restored to normal.
This came in a statement by the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Innovation and Modernization of Administration, a copy of which was received by the Mauritanian News Agency, which reads:
“At around ten thirty in the evening of Wednesday, June 5, 2024, we witnessed a sudden interruption in the Internet. A specialized committee was immediately formed to identify the source of the malfunction and begin to repair it, under the direct follow-up of the highest authorities of the country.
The commission found that the reason for the outage was at the level of the ACE submarine internet cable, specifically at a point outside the Mauritanian border, in a Spanish city. The Commission responded immediately to provide urgent and rapid solutions to restore service, and succeeded in doing so as soon as possible.
Initial diagnoses caused by the malfunction revealed gaps that require measures to be filled to ensure future Internet service continuity.
Thanks to close supervision and follow-up, and international cooperation, the malfunction was repaired, and the service was restored to normal.
