U.S. Embassy Organizes Reception on the Occasion of the 248th Anniversary of National Independence

The U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott organized a reception on Tuesday evening on the occasion of the 248th anniversary of U.S. national independence.
The Government was represented at the ceremony by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk, National Defence Hanane Ould Sidi, and Petroleum, Mines and Energy Government Spokesperson Nani Ould Chrouga.
In a speech on the occasion, U.S. Ambassador Cynthia Kierscht thanked the Mauritanian government for accepting the invitation to participate in the ceremony, praising its reform efforts over recent years in the field of human rights, noting that the United States has diverted a lot of resources to encourage these efforts.
She praised the leadership role played by Mauritania in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel region, reiterating the various areas of cooperation between Mauritania and the United States of America, such as health, education, human cadre training and other fields.
She added that her country is committed to supporting Mauritania’s commendable efforts in meeting the needs of refugees.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. Ahmed Ould Bouh, Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, Ms. Hindou Mint Ainina, Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office in charge of Political Affairs, Mr. Massar Sissoko, Ambassador and Director General of the Directorate of Support and Joint Means, Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, and Mr. Mohamed Hanashi El-Kitab, Ambassador and Director General of the Directorate of Bilateral Cooperation, Mr. Mohamed Lamine Ould Chamra, Ambassador and Director of the Americas at the Directorate of Bilateral Cooperation, Mr. Baila Ba, Assistant Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, and a number of heads of political parties, civil society and the diplomatic corps accredited in Mauritania.
