Commissioner for Human Rights: International Institutions Praised the Unprecedented Development of Human Rights in Mauritania
Nouakchott
His Excellency the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Cheikh Ahmedou Ould Ahmed Salem Ould Sidi, stressed that the unprecedented development witnessed by Mauritania in the field of human rights did not come from a vacuum, but came after great work in all fields, adding that in the field of human trafficking, we moved from the third level to the second level a year after the accession of His Excellency the President of the Republic to power, which has never happened before.
Commenting on the results of the cabinet meeting Wednesday evening in Nouakchott, he added that the political openness in recent years has been accompanied by openness in human rights work (human rights organizations and civil society organizations), as for the first time organizations working in the field have become partners of the government, and the sector has organized joint awareness-raising operations with it.
He added that the Office of the High Commissioner has accompanied the field work carried out by these bodies in detecting the crimes of slavery by sending missions to inspect such cases, as the Commission has become the civil party in this type of crime.
