President of Republic Receives Vatican Ambassador’s Credentials

On 27 April, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received the credentials of HE Mr. Waldemar Stanislaw, in his capacity as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Vatican to the Republic Islamic of Mauritania.

At the end of the ceremony, the President of the Republic received the Vatican diplomat in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad.

Shortly after the meeting, the diplomat made a statement in which he said that as a representative of the Holy See and Pope Francis, he expresses his deep gratitude for this opportunity to present his credentials to the President of the Republic as well as to the government, to the religious authorities and to the Mauritanian people, whom he congratulates on the occasion of the feast of Id al- Fitr which has just been celebrated at the end of the blessed month of Ramadan. He added that he is a bearer of a message of peace and fraternity. He stressed that the good diplomatic relations between the Vatican and Mauritania are based on the principles of mutual respect, tolerance, and human fraternity.

The Vatican diplomat affirmed his firm will to work in a spirit of respect of each one’s culture, religious beliefs, individual convictions and to foster dialogue, friendship, and cooperation.
