On 29 November, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Yahya Ould Ahmed El Waghf, left Nouakchott for Niger where he will take part, in Niamey, in the first high-level meeting of ministers of irrigation in the Sahel and West Africa in the framework of the regional support project for the Niamey irrigation initiative in the Sahel. <\/p>\n
This meeting is held on the sidelines of the African irrigation and drainage exhibition which takes place from 28 November to 2 December 2022. The initiative, organized under the theme: \u201cSuccessful irrigation experiences in West and Central Africa: Approaches, lessons learned and perspectives\u201d, is part of the Regional Support Project for the Initiative for Irrigation in the Sahel (PARIIS). <\/p>\n

The reflections around the theme will be an opportunity for the actors in the field of irrigation to highlight the potential for the expansion of irrigation in sub-Saharan countries to make it one of the levers of the fight against food and economic insecurity.
\nThis first meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the six beneficiary countries of PARIIS (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Chad) aims to strengthen high-level inter-country exchanges around PARIIS and its achievements. It will also be a space for sharing knowledge and innovations between actors to strengthen high-level dialogue between participating countries of PARIIS, initiate irrigation solutions proven in various countries, and strengthen joint advocacy for agricultural water in the Sahelian and West African regions.
