On the occasion of the flag-raising ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the national independence, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, decorated Saturday a group of martyrs and combatants (mujahedeen) with the Commander Medal as an appreciation for their tremendous sacrifices in defending the country and its independence.
\nHere is the complete list of the decorated personalities:
\n1. The hero Moujaheed Bakar Ould Soueid Ahmed: He was born in 1818. From early childhood, he showed skills and leadership capabilities and was one of the leading figures in the resistance against the French colonization. He was martyred in the battle of Bougadoum in 1905.
\n2. Mujaheed Sidi Ould Moulay Zein: one of the prominent courageous leaders of the resistance who devoted his life to the fight against the colonizer. He led the famous battle of Tidjikdja that ended up with a sweeping victory against the French. He was martyred in that battle.
\n3. Mujaheed Sidi Ould Sidi Ahmed: a hero of the resistance, he was known for his courage and unwavering determination. He was martyred in 1908 by the French after leading heroic fights.
\n4. Emir Moujaheed Sidi Ahmed Ould Aidda: He was born in 1889 and took over the rule in 1903. He led many battles against the colonizer that caused significant damage to the French. He was martyred on the morning of March 19, 1932.
\n5. Mujaheed, Poet, and Scholar: Cheikh Sidi-Mohamed Ould Cheikh Sidiya: he was one of the leading figures in the resistance against colonization. That was evident in his positions and in his poetry, which call on the Mauritanian society to rise against the French. He died in 1869 at the age of 40.
\n6. Moujaheed Mohamed Mokhtar Ould El Hamid: he was a courageous knight and pious scholar who exploited his intelligence and social status in the resistance against the colonizer. He emigrated to Saudi Arabia and died there.
\n7. Moujaheed Cheikh Ould Abdouka: He led ferocious battles against the colonizer in Hodh Chargui.
\n8. Moujaheed El Hadj Oumar Ba: The founder of El Valah Schools. He was born in 1908 and devoted his life to maintain the Islamic identity of the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
