On Thursday evening, His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, chaired a meeting with officials and community leaders from the South Nouakchott region.<\/p>\n
At the start of the meeting, His Excellency the President expressed his pleasure at the gathering, emphasising that the visit formed part of his efforts to engage directly with citizens, gain an insight into their living conditions, and listen to their demands and aspirations.<\/p>\n
His Excellency explained that the visits he had decided to undertake to the country\u2019s various regions included the three regions of Nouakchott, emphasising that the fact that citizens reside in the capital does not diminish their sense of belonging to their home regions, nor does it preclude his right to take an interest in their issues and listen to their concerns.<\/p>\n
He noted that the Southern Nouakchott region had witnessed significant development in its infrastructure, including in the sectors of education, health, roads and sport, despite the challenges associated with rapid urban expansion and population density, and the resulting pressure on essential services.<\/p>\n
In concluding his speech, he called on elected representatives, officials, local stakeholders and representatives of civil society to voice the concerns of the population, identify their priorities and propose appropriate solutions to the challenges at hand, emphasising the importance of consultation and joint action to meet citizens\u2019 aspirations.<\/p>\n
Participants\u2019 contributions focused on highlighting the projects implemented under the emergency programme and their contribution to improving access to essential services and supporting local development; the contributions also included a number of demands and the identification of priorities for the province\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n
