The Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Mr. Mohamedou Mheimid, left \u00a0Nouakchott, early Monday morning, for Madrid, to participate in the high-level sessions of the \u201cFinancing Sustainable Development Goals: Strengthening the Country-Led Approach\u201d forums.<\/p>\n
These important international meetings will be held from October 27 to 29, 2026, and are jointly organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) through its \u201cSustainable Finance Hub,\u201d and the Spanish government. This is following the official inauguration of the UNDP\u2019s new office in Madrid, which will serve as a strategic hub for innovating sustainable financing solutions and formulating development policies in collaboration with Spain and the European Union.<\/p>\n
Mauritania\u2019s participation in this international event represents an opportunity to support our country\u2019s economic diplomacy and align with global efforts aimed at accelerating financing mechanisms for the Sustainable Development Goals, based on the \u201cSeville Pledge\u201d and the implementation of integrated national financing frameworks, thereby ensuring the mobilization of domestic resources and reducing private investment risks to attract development financing.<\/p>\n
For the record, the Seville Pledge (or \u201cSeville Commitment\u201d) is a global document and roadmap adopted in June 2025 during the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), held in Seville, Spain, under the auspices of the United Nations and in the presence of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.<\/p>\n
Over the course of three days, the forum is expected to feature discussions on key themes, including strengthening inclusive public finance, developing blended finance mechanisms, managing public debt and reducing social inequality, as well as building digitalized financing systems that are resilient to economic and environmental shocks.<\/p>\n
On the sidelines of the forum, His Excellency the Minister is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with senior officials from the United Nations Development Program, the Spanish government, and participating financial and international partners to discuss ways to strengthen development cooperation, mobilize support, and implement structural reforms aimed at advancing Mauritanian national economic and social development programs.<\/p>\n
