His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received on Tuesday, at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, the credentials of His Excellency Lieutenant-Colonel Omar Sanda Ahmed, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.<\/p>\n
Following the ceremony, the President \u00a0granted an audience to the Ghanaian ambassador in the presence of Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad.<\/p>\n
Following the meeting, the Ghanaian ambassador stated in a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency that his discussions with the President of the Republic had been fruitful, noting that they addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, which date back more than 66 years.<\/p>\n
He explained that the discussions focused, in particular, on diplomatic matters, emphasizing the two countries\u2019 aspiration to elevate their relations to the level of a practical and tangible economic partnership that contributes to improving the living conditions of both peoples and strengthening prospects for joint cooperation.<\/p>\n
He added that Ghana views Mauritania as an important and pivotal partner in the Sahel region and on the African continent as a whole, underscoring the significance of the role it plays in strengthening regional cooperation and addressing shared challenges.<\/p>\n
The Ambassador expressed his hope that the coming period would see a state visit by the President of the Republic of Ghana to Mauritania, noting that such a visit would mark an important milestone in the course of bilateral relations and open broader horizons for cooperation and partnership between the two countries.<\/p>\n
He concluded his remarks by affirming that Ghana views Mauritania as a cornerstone in strengthening the African continent\u2019s resilience and its ability to meet challenges, given the role it plays at both the regional and continental levels.<\/p>\n
