President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani on Tuesday received the credentials of Ibrahima Turay, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott.<\/p>\n
Following the ceremony, President El Ghazouani granted an audience to the Sierra Leonean ambassador in the presence of Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad.<\/p>\n
Shortly after the meeting, the Sierra Leonean diplomat made the following statement to the Mauritanian news agency (AMI):<\/p>\n
“The presentation of my letters of credence to His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Sheikh El Ghazouani marks an important milestone in strengthening the longstanding bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Sierra Leone and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.<\/p>\n
This relation have receive renewed momentum through the reciprocal visits of our two heads of states in recent months, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening bilateral tie and advancing mutual beneficial partnership.<\/p>\n
Having previously worked in Mauritania in the fisheries sector, I have a personal appreciation of the country and its immense potential for cooperation with Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n
As ambassador, I intend to build on the experience on the experience and the strong political goodwill between our two countries to advance practical collaborations in fisheries, gas and energy, trade, investment and skills development.<\/p>\n
I look forward to fostering partnership that translates our shared aspirations into tangible economic opportunity and lasting benefit for the people of both countries.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was attended by Nani Ould Chrougha, Minister in charge of the President\u2019s Cabinet; Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad; Harouna Traore, Adviser to the President; and Mohamed El Hanchi El Kettab, Director General of Bilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
