Her Excellency Ms. Fatimetou Mint Khattri, Commissioner for Food Security, affirmed that Mauritania is working to develop an integrated food and nutrition security approach to address challenges arising from climate change, drought, market fluctuations, humanitarian crises, and refugee movements.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on Monday evening during the 54th session of the Committee on World Food Security in Rome, she explained that this approach is based on crisis prevention and preparedness, strengthening coordination among government sectors and partners, and developing early warning systems and data analysis. These measures aim to ensure a rapid response and direct resources towards the most vulnerable populations and areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

She added that Mauritania had established a national fund to respond to food and nutrition crises, support the implementation of national plans, and mobilize the resources needed for interventions. This initiative is being pursued alongside the development of social protection programs, including food assistance and cash transfers, support for income-generating activities, and measures to strengthen household resilience.<\/span><\/p>\n

She emphasized that these efforts fall within the framework of the program of His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, which places particular emphasis on protecting vulnerable groups and strengthening food and nutrition security. She also commended the role of partners, particularly the World Food Program (WFP), in supporting the implementation of national programs.<\/span><\/p>\n

She noted that the reduction in the WFP\u2019s interventions this year poses a challenge to the continuity of these programs and the expansion of their reach to additional beneficiaries. This situation calls for greater mobilization of national and international resources to preserve the gains achieved and ensure the continuation of these interventions.<\/span><\/p>\n

She further highlighted Mauritania\u2019s experience in hosting Malian refugees, particularly at the Mbera camp in Hodh Ech Chargui Region, as a reflection of the country\u2019s commitment to humanitarian solidarity and shared responsibility. She added that the authorities, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Food Program, and other partners, are working to meet refugees\u2019 basic needs and promote their inclusion in national systems, within the limits of available resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

She expressed hope that the session would lead to stronger collective action and translate commitments into practical and sustainable measures that contribute to ending hunger and malnutrition, strengthening community resilience, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
