On July 8 at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, \u00a0His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani received Mr. Ali Omar, Somalia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The Somali minister, serving as a special envoy of President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, delivered a written message from the Somali leader.<\/p>\n
Following the meeting, the special envoy, in a statement conveyed through Somalia’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Youssouf Ahmed Hassan, said he was honored to be received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. He conveyed the greetings of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and said the written message reaffirmed Somalia’s deep appreciation for Mauritania and the two countries’ shared determination to elevate their longstanding fraternal relations into a stronger strategic partnership.<\/p>\n
The envoy said the discussions underscored the historic and brotherly ties between Mauritania and Somalia, founded on shared religious and cultural values, mutual respect, and common positions on preserving national sovereignty, strengthening security and stability, and promoting sustainable development.<\/p>\n
He also expressed Somalia’s appreciation for Mauritania’s consistent support for the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while commending Mauritania’s leading role in Arab and African affairs, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and other regional and international forums.<\/p>\n
Both sides stressed the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including diplomacy, security, counterterrorism, education, fisheries, livestock, maritime cooperation, energy, and institutional capacity building, to advance the shared interests of both countries.<\/p>\n
The Somali envoy concluded by thanking the President of the Republic, the Mauritanian government, and the Mauritanian people for their warm welcome and hospitality. He expressed confidence that relations between the two nations would continue to deepen, contributing to greater solidarity and cooperation among Arab, African, and Muslim countries.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended on the Mauritanian side by Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic; Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad; and Mr. Mohamed El Hanchi El Kettab, Director General of Bilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
The Somali delegation included Ambassador Youssouf Ahmed Hassan and Mr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed, Director of the Arab Affairs Department at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
