The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad announced Mauritania\u2019s strong protest and categorical rejection of the actions that took place around its embassy in Bamako, which it described as a violation of the sanctity of its diplomatic mission and a breach of international norms and conventions
\nThis was stated in a press release issued by the Ministry on Thursday evening, a copy of which was received by the Mauritanian News Agency.
\nThe text of the statement is as follows:<\/p>\n
\u201cOn Thursday evening, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad summoned the Ambassador of the Republic of Mali to Mauritania, Mr. Bakary Dombia, to whom His Excellency Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug conveyed Mauritania\u2019s strong protest and categorical rejection of the actions witnessed in the vicinity of its embassy in Bamako that violate the sanctity of its diplomatic mission.
\nHe emphasized that the security of the embassy and the safety of its staff, as well as the security of Mauritanian citizens in Mali and their property, are the responsibility of the receiving state, in accordance with relevant international agreements and customs.
\nHis Excellency the Minister stressed that Mauritania expects the sisterly Malian government to take the necessary measures to protect the mission, Mauritanian citizens, and their property, and to prevent the recurrence of such acts, while ensuring that any issues between the two countries are addressed through established diplomatic channels.
