The Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Sid’ Ahmed Eli Benane, left Nouakchott this morning, Monday, heading to Geneva to participate in the fifty-first session of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review.<\/p>\n
During this session the Commissioner will present the national report of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania related to the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review mechanism.<\/p>\n
The Universal Periodic Review constitutes a mechanism that allows the Human Rights Council to periodically review the extent to which United Nations member states fulfill their commitments and obligations in the field of human rights.<\/p>\n
