The Ministers of Culture, Arts and Communication and Relations with Parliament, Animal Development, and Environment and Sustainable Development met to discuss the outcomes of the Council of Ministers meeting, during a press briefing held today, Tuesday, in the press room of the Mauritanian News Agency.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, government spokesman Mr. El Housseun Ould Medou, said in response to a question about the Tintane \u2013 Ain Ferbe \u2013 Atwil road that work on this road will begin at the beginning of next year, and the delay in it is due to the gathering of financial resources for it.<\/p>\n
He confirmed that the state has repaired the Road of Hope connecting Nouakchott and Nema, except for two sections where work is currently underway.In his response to a question about the Heritage Cities Festival, the Minister confirmed that the festival will be held at its usual time (in December), with the city of Ouadane hosting its next edition.<\/p>\n
He added that the Ministry of Culture concluded last weekend the National Week of Culture and Arts, an event that lasted for two months, during which more than 81 festivals were organized, 19 of them by the Ministry of Culture, 4 by the Ministry of Tourism, 1 by the Ministry of Agriculture, and the rest were local festivals.<\/p>\n
As for \u00a0the Minister of Animal Development, Mr. Sidi Ahmed Ould Mohamed, he commented on a statement related to the National Campaign against Rural Fires for the year 2025-2026, noting that the state has decided to adopt a new approach that relies on a preventive rather than a remedial dimension, especially in areas near the borders experiencing security instability. He added that this approach includes a punitive aspect, as it is unacceptable to leave those responsible for the fires unpunished<\/p>\n
He confirmed that this approach saw the doubling of the financial envelope compared to the amounts allocated for previous campaigns. The approach also included the integration of new components and the implementation of a set of measures for the first time, such as those related to the incentive aspect.The Minister pointed out the great importance that His Excellency the President of the Republic places on livestock, which was demonstrated by the establishment of a government sector dedicated to it, calling on the population to preserve the vegetation cover to avoid the drying out and the costs of purchasing fodder caused by fires.<\/p>\n
For her part, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms. Messouda Bint Bahaam Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, stated that she presented before the Council of Ministers a joint statement with the Minister of Interior and Decentralization and Local Development, and the Minister of Animal Development, concerning the national campaign to combat rural fires (2025\u20132026), explaining that this statement provides a set of measures to enhance the effectiveness of the national system for combating rural fires.<\/p>\n
She added that this campaign will include several initiatives this year that involve introducing innovative and creative activities, noting that it consists of five main pillars. The first of these relates to awareness, as a large campaign will be organized to raise awareness about the importance of preserving pastures, and it will include committees in which everyone participates, including local elected officials, residents, and civil society organizations. The government will also send ministers to the field to take part in the awareness-raising process.<\/p>\n
She added that the second axis is the construction and maintenance of old roads, as this year’s campaign includes the maintenance of 10,000 square kilometers out of 12 square kilometers (the area of the old network), and the construction of new roads, in addition to manual road construction, which is the third axis.<\/p>\n
Regarding the fourth axis related to firefighting, Her Excellency the Minister clarified that the new approach has expanded this axis to include intervention by all sectors capable of contributing to extinguishing fires, such as the army, for example.<\/p>\n
She pointed out that the fifth axis concerns the monitoring and evaluation of the campaign, highlighting that it will see the introduction of new technologies, such as early warning for the first time.Regarding the results of the past campaign, she said that it achieved fairly good results, although they were lower than last year and the average of previous years, as the area affected by fires reached 114,000 hectares instead of 140,000 last year.<\/p>\n
She emphasized the importance of fire prevention this time, especially after the vegetation cover increased by 15% this year, along with security issues in some border areas and the pressure from refugees, noting that the states targeted by the campaign this year are: The Two Hodhs, Gorgol, Guidimagha, Brakna, Trarza, and Tagant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
