His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, highlighted the key role played by the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group in promoting economic and social development of the continent.<\/p>\n
In a speech delivered at the swearing-in ceremony of the Group’s President on 1 September in Abidjan, His Excellency stressed the importance of the Group’s contribution to building a coherent, economically integrated, and prosperous Africa.<\/p>\n

Ladies and Gentlemen, Members of the Diplomatic Corps and Representatives of International Financial Institutions,<\/p>\n
Honorable Guests,<\/p>\n
It is both a pleasure and an honor for me to be here today in Abidjan alongside my brother and friend, His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara, to take part in the swearing-in ceremony of the President of the African Bank, Mr. Sidi Ould Tah.<\/p>\n
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to you, Your Excellency and dear friend, as well as to the Ivorian government and people, for the warm welcome and all the attention you have shown me and the delegation accompanying me.<\/p>\n
Ladies and gentlemen,<\/p>\n
As you know, the African Development Bank plays a decisive role in the economic and social development of our continent. Through its technical and financial support, it has established itself as a leading institution in the financing of infrastructure, agriculture, energy, health, and education projects in Africa.<\/p>\n
Its investments and partnerships have improved the living conditions of thousands of people by financing structural projects that create value, jobs, and entrepreneurial opportunities for young people.<\/p>\n
Ladies and gentlemen,<\/p>\n
The AfDB’s commitment to member states and regional organizations confirms the importance of its contribution to our collective efforts to build an economically integrated and sustainably prosperous Africa based on solidarity. To this end, member countries have always taken great care to ensure that experience, competence, and professionalism are decisive factors in the selection of the president of this institution. It is in this spirit that Mauritania has nominated Mr. Sidi Ould Tah, a seasoned economist with solid experience as Minister of Economic Affairs and CEO of renowned multilateral financial institutions, for the position of President and CEO of this prestigious institution. The majority of member countries have chosen this candidate. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to them!<\/p>\n
My thanks go in particular to His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara, whose leadership, commitment, and support were particularly decisive in the election of Mr. Sidi Ould Tah, to whom I extend my sincere congratulations.<\/p>\n
I would also like to thank and congratulate my brother, Mr. Akinwumi Adesina, for his commitment and the impressive results he has achieved throughout his presidency.<\/p>\n
Mr. Sidi Ould Tah, who succeeds him today, has the heavy responsibility of ensuring that the AfDB strengthens its central role in promoting economic and social development so that it remains a powerful lever for realizing the aspirations of African peoples for solidarity, sustainable development, and prosperity.<\/p>\n
Convinced that he will rise to this challenge and live up to the trust placed in him by the member countries, I wish him every success in his new role and assure him of our constant support.<\/p>\n
