{"id":25509,"date":"2025-07-17T13:47:52","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ami.mr\/en\/?p=25509"},"modified":"2025-07-17T13:56:58","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:56:58","slug":"launch-of-a-project-to-rescue-migrants-who-have-survived-drowning-at-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ami.mr\/en\/archives\/25509","title":{"rendered":"Launch of a Project to rescue Migrants who have survived Drowning at Sea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Governor of Nouadhibou, Mr. Mahi Ould Hamed, presided over the launch of a project to provide assistance to migrants who have survived shipwrecks at sea in the city of Nouadhibou on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to provide a comprehensive humanitarian response through a package of humanitarian services, including food assistance for migrants in vulnerable situations, health care and psychological support, and family reunification, as well as interventions including protection, awareness-raising, social accompaniment, and improved reception conditions through support for local infrastructure and enhanced coordination with the authorities to ensure an organized and effective response.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech on the occasion, the governor explained that the launch of this project is part of the social policy of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, which aims to encourage the government and public institutions such as the Mauritanian Red Crescent to increase their social intervention and support throughout the country, and in the province of Nouadhibou in particular.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that this 18-month project will assist those involved in rescue operations and provide care for surviving migrants, pointing out that the number of beneficiaries of the project, which has a budget of \u20ac1.3 million, is estimated at 6,000 migrants.<\/p>\n<p>The signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould El Arabi, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Mohamed Ould Elnemine, the Director of Agricultural Division Development, Mr. Bab Ahmed Ould Nagra, the Director of Plant Protection, Mr. Sidi Mohamed Ould El Kassem and the General Manager of the National Company for Rural Development \u201cSONADER\u201d, Mr. Hamada Ould Didi.<\/p>\n<p>The president of the Mauritanian Red Crescent, Mr. Balla Ould Makki, pointed out that this noble humanitarian project comes in response to the growing challenges associated with migration and targets critical landing points in Nouadhibou and Chami, with a focus on the city of Nouadhibou, which is a major stop on migration routes.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the project is the result of a strategic partnership between the Mauritanian Red Crescent and the French Red Cross, with the support of national authorities and technical and financial partners whose contributions have helped to shape and ensure the success of this initiative.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Mr. Denis Angevin, representative of the French Red Cross, praised the partnership between his organization and the Mauritanian authorities, as well as the various agencies working together in the field of migration, highlighting the need for solidarity and joint efforts given the humanitarian situation faced by migrants.<\/p>\n<p>The deputy mayor of Nouadhibou, Ms. Manah Bint Al-Shakar, had previously emphasized in a speech that this project embodies noble humanitarian values, recalling the role played by the municipality in providing health and education services and psychological support to migrants and in taking care of them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Governor of Nouadhibou, Mr. Mahi Ould Hamed, presided over the launch of a project to provide assistance to migrants who have survived shipwrecks at sea in the city of Nouadhibou on Thursday.
