The Ministers of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr.Momma Ould Beibatta, Youth Empowerment, Employment, Sports and Civil Service, Mr. Mohamed Abdallah Ould Louly, and the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Interior, Promotion of Decentralization and Local Development in charge of Decentralization and Local Development, Mr. Yacoub Salem Vall, held a meeting in the premises of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty in Nouakchott, including the heads of the regions of Trarza, Brakna, Guidimagha, Inchiri and Hodh El Charghi, as well as the Secretary General of the Association of Regional Development Councils (ARJDC).<\/p>\n
The meeting addressed the procedures related to the launch of the second phase of the agricultural mechanization program and the transfer of agricultural machinery consisting of 80 tractors and their accessories to the targeted areas.<\/p>\n
During his intervention, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty explained that this meeting aims to implement the content of the joint statement that was presented last Tuesday before the Council of Ministers meeting on agricultural mechanization, recalling the stages that this program has gone through, which is part of the implementation of the high instructions of President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani in 2022 to introduce agricultural mechanization in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the ministry worked, in implementation of these instructions, to distribute 81 tractors and their accessories in coordination with the regional councils, noting that some shortcomings were recorded related to the training of drivers and the absence of maintenance centers in order to ensure the continuity of the performance of this agricultural equipment, whose hourly price was set at 15,000 old Ouguiyas.<\/p>\n
He said that a technical committee chaired by the Ministry of Agriculture and including the concerned sectors will be formed to study the procedures to be followed and assign tasks between the ministerial sectors and regional councils to achieve the desired goals in order to alleviate the issues raised on agricultural mechanization and start implementing the plan.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Employment, Sports and Civil Service explained that his sector will select the youth who will be trained and recruited to implement the plan, stressing that technical criteria and accurate information about the quality of tractors will be adopted to reflect the government’s keenness to integrate youth in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould El Arabi, the Charg\u00e9 d’Affaires of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Mohamed Ould El nemine, and the Directors of Agricultural Division Development and Plant Protection, respectively Bab Ahmed Ould El Nagra and Sidi Mohamed Ould El Kassem.<\/p>\n
