On Saturday evening, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms Messaouda Mint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdhaf, accompanied by the Senegalese Minister for the Environment, Mr Daouda Ngoum, the Wali of Trarza and the Governor of Saint-Louis (Senegal), made a reconnaissance visit to Senegal’s Djoudj National Park as part of the events marking the second edition of the Senegal River Delta Days, which will take place on Sunday at Diawling Park (Mauritania).<\/p>\n
The two ministers received technical explanations on the Djoudj National Park, located on the south bank of the Senegal River, northeast of Saint-Louis, and offering a range of natural wetland habitats favored by migratory birds, including nearly 400 species of birds.<\/p>\n
Explanations focused on the dynamics of these birds, which take refuge in the reserve in the morning and evening after a long desert crossing.<\/p>\n
The reserve occupies 16,000 hectares or 160 square kilometers of the Senegal River delta, an area that is home to over one and a half million migratory birds.<\/p>\n
The reserve includes lakes and wetlands surrounded by streams, where migratory waterbirds from Europe come to warm up in winter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
