The First Lady, Dr Mariem Fadel Dah chaired, Monday in Kaedi, the launch of the second phase of the Sahel Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend project (SWEDD) in Mauritania. <\/p>\n
In a speech on the occasion, the First Lady indicated that SWEDD will allow women to fully play their role as true actors of development. She added that the Sahel countries, with the support of their development partners, launched such a project using a participatory approach that transforms what was considered a simple demographic obstacle into a promising development opportunity. <\/p>\n
Dr Mariem Fadel Dah underlined that faced with the multiple challenges posed by the modification of the structure of the age pyramid, the countries of the Sahel, including Mauritania, have created, with the support of some of their partners, the SWEDD Project, with the aim of defining and implementing an appropriate common approach in order to make what was until then perceived as a demographic burden, a real opportunity for development, while reducing gender inequalities.<\/p>\n
She stressed that the results recorded should not obscure the distance still to be covered, which is why no effort should be spared to benefit the country from the open demographic window, for the optimal capture of the resulting dividend. <\/p>\n
She concluded by thanking the World Bank Group, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the African Union, the West African Health Organization (WAHO), and other partners and non-state actors for their respective roles in preparation for the event and for their commendable efforts in the service of women’s empowerment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
