areas affected by the high river level floods, in order to help and support those affected and alleviate their suffering, following the instructions of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

As the health sector is considered one of the most vital sectors because it is linked to the health of citizens, the sector started implementing its interventions from the first hours to provide health services to citizens, especially those affected in shelters.

To shed more light on these interventions, the Mauritanian News Agency interviewed the regional directors of health in the affected states, during which they emphasized the sector’s concern for the security and safety of citizens, and that all necessary measures have been taken in this regard.

The Regional Director of Health in the state of Gorgol, Mr. Atoul Amrou Ould Sid Abba, explained that after the floods emerged and affected citizens, mosquito nets to the displaced in both the districts of Kaedi and Maghama, and a significant amount of various types of medicines were distributed to those affected, including medicines for chronic diseases and those that accompany such situations.

He added that the sector has reinforced medical teams in the field with qualified medical personnel, and logistically with ambulances and the necessary equipment to deal with cases that may result from the floods, in addition to enhancing vigilance and epidemiological control in anticipation of any emergency, in addition to participating in sensitization operations to maintain hygiene, washing hands frequently with soap and water, not using contaminated water, not letting children get into contaminated water and ponds, and in case of any emergency to go to the nearest health point.

He pointed out that their routine work continues, such as dealing with malnutrition, pregnant women and immunizations, indicating that the situation is under control and there is nothing to worry about.

For his part, the Regional Director of Health in the state of Guidimagha, Mr. Mohamed Affel, said that they accompanied the ministerial delegation on its visit to the areas affected by the floods, explaining that during a meeting with the ministerial delegation in Kouri, each sector was entrusted with its responsibilities, stressing that the health sector in this area took care of all those affected by providing mosquito nets and necessary medicines, including medicines for chronic diseases.

He added that the sector has provided a health point in the city of Wombo, where a general practitioner is on duty to provide free medical treatments and consultations to patients, noting that the general situation of malaria fever is normal compared to previous years and there are no deaths.

For his part, the Regional Director of Health at the level of the state of Trarza, Mr. Ba Kassem, said that they accompanied those affected, especially at the level of Lekseiba 2, which is one of the most affected areas, noting that about 50 families were provided by the ministry with impregnated mosquito nets and the necessary medicines within the framework of accompanying the work of the ministerial committee in charge of emergencies.

He added that the sector has set up an integrated health point at the shelter that includes an ambulance to transport patients and a general physician to examine patients and diagnose their medical conditions, in
