A statement released by IMROP indicated that \u201cthe stranding of a whale was recently observed on the Mauritanian beaches south of Nouakchott, and this dead whale was found on Sunday 25 April 2021 in the Legoueichich area\u201d.<\/p>\n
Preliminary information indicates that it may be a Blue-type whale, 22 meters long, which is an average length for this species, which can reach 34 meters. <\/p>\n
This whale is currently in an advanced state of decomposition, which may suggest that it probably died on the high seas, far from the stranding area. <\/p>\n
Mauritanian waters are considered a transit region for many whales that move between the North and South Poles, while whales death is a natural phenomenon. <\/p>\n
The Mauritanian coasts experienced between 2013 and 2019 the stranding of about fifty whales according to the IMROP database, some are due to normal causes while others are attributable to various factors.<\/p>\n
