The President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Dah Ould Abdeljalil, announced the provisional results of the Saturday, June 29, 2024 elections<\/p>\n
In a speech during a press conference held on Monday morning at the headquarters of the electoral commission, the president of the electoral commission explained that the participation rate in these elections amounted to 55.39%.<\/p>\n
Mr. Dah Ould Abdel Jalil congratulated the Mauritanian people on the occasion of the organization of the June 29, 2024 ballot in an atmosphere of positive and calm competition, at the level of awareness, carrying the trust and a sense of national jealousy to preserve, harmony and guarantee the consolidation of the rules and controls of pluralistic democracy.<\/p>\n
The following is the text of the speech of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission:<\/p>\n

May God’s blessings be upon the faithful Prophet<\/p>\n
Dear fellow citizens<\/p>\n
Allow me, on behalf of the Independent National Electoral Commission, to congratulate you all on the occasion of the organization of the June 29, 2024 ballot in an atmosphere of positive, calm and responsible competition, reflecting the level of awareness, honesty and national jealousy to preserve unity and harmony and ensure that the rules and regulations of pluralistic democracy are guaranteed<\/p>\n
We have endeavored to the best of our ability throughout the stages of the electoral cycle to create a favorable ground for a transparent and fair competition that will enable you to choose whoever you deem fit to assume the position of President of the Republic for the next five-year term.<\/p>\n
We believe that the ground has been relatively prepared, thanks to God Almighty and with the strong support of all our partners.<\/p>\n
I take this opportunity to extend my deepest thanks and gratitude to the government, buyers, political parties, civil society bodies, international organizations and the media.<\/p>\n
They, and all Mauritanians, have been a strong support and have accompanied us with constructive endeavors, insightful guidance and sound advice.<\/p>\n
Dear fellow Citizens:<\/p>\n
Pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution, laws, rules and regulations related to presidential elections, in particular the April 2024 decree calling the electorate for June 29, 2024, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) proceeded to organize the first half of the said elections<\/p>\n
Seven (7) candidates competed for the trust of 1,939,342 voters in 4,503 polling stations, including 52 for our citizens living abroad.<\/p>\n
The election yielded the following provisional results.<\/p>\n
– Number of voters 1,074,208,208.<\/p>\n
– Voided cards 53.787.<\/p>\n
– Neutral ballots 31.608.<\/p>\n
– Votes cast 988,813.<\/p>\n
– 55.6% turnout.<\/p>\n
The breakdown of votes cast is as follows<\/p>\n
– Mr. Mohamed Cheikh El-Ghazwani \/ received : 554,956 votes or 56.12%.<\/p>\n
– Mr. Mohamed Lemin El-Murteji El-Wafi \/ obtained 9.722 votes or 0.98%.<\/p>\n
– Mr. Hamadi Sayed Sayed Mokhtar Mohamed Abdi obtained 126.340 votes or 12.78%.<\/p>\n
– Mr. Otouma Antoine Souleiman Soumare \/ received 20.360 votes or 2.06%.<\/p>\n
– Mr. Madamadou Bokar Baar Ba with 23,617 votes or 2.39%.<\/p>\n
– Mr. El Eid Mohameden M’barek \/ got: 35,288,288 votes or 3.57%.<\/p>\n
– Mr. Bramah Damah Abeid \/ got : 218,546 votes or 22.10%.<\/p>\n
