The Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Nedhirou Ould Hamed, participated, Thursday, in Nouakchott, in a symposium on the global COVAX initiative. <\/p>\n
This initiative is intended to ensure wider access for populations across the world, particularly the most vulnerable sections, to anti-COVID-19 vaccines. <\/p>\n
In a speech made on this occasion, the Minister of Health assured that Mauritania reacted promptly since the outbreak of the pandemic with a set of strict prophylactic measures and has always adjusted the level of these measures according to the evolution of the pandemic indicators. <\/p>\n
He stressed that the preparation of the response to COVID-19 was an opportunity to upgrade the health system as a whole and more particularly with the improvement of technical platforms, the preparation of lockdown zones, the organization of drug supply chains, the deployment of medical personnel, the establishment of a monitoring, alert, and response system. <\/p>\n
More generally, it was an opportunity for the government to revisit health policies, to make health a priority, and to focus on the sector in general to develop its capacities and improve its performance. <\/p>\n
He added that Mauritania had started vaccination in Nouakchott, to extend it to all the wilayas of the interior, particularly those which are the most distant, specifying that additional batches of vaccines are expected and that the indicators reflect, so far, control of the pandemic. <\/p>\n
Mr. Mohamed Nedhirou Ould Hamed said that among the measures that have been taken at the economic level, considered one of the most affected sectors, is support for fishing and agriculture, essential areas and directly linked to the lives of citizens, in particular the poorest segments. <\/p>\n
It should be noted that COVAX is an initiative set up with the aim of providing vaccines to the countries most affected by the disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
